Margaret Friend, Ph.D. is a research scientist and educator at SDSU where she directs the Infant and Child Development Lab. Having served on numerous committees, including space & planning, she has experience in negotiating solutions. As an avid gardener she grows and promotes native plants and habitat.
Gerald Shoelen is AVP of IT Operations in the technology, data, and analytics solution space and has been involved with improving Normal Heights infrastructure through his service on the Normal Heights Community Planning Group. As a long-term tri-lingual resident of San Diego he obtained his education locally from Patrick Henry, Grossmont College and UCSD. He is often found in many parts of the city running errands on his bicycle.
Caroline McKeown, Ph.D. is a neuroscientist at Scripps Research where she investigates neuronal development, brain injury, and neurodegenerative diseases, mentors students, and volunteers on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Committee. She is passionate about her community, having served on the Normal Heights Community Planning Group for 8 years, and is a fierce advocate for young women, volunteering as a Girl Scout leader and a girls softball coach. When she is not volunteering as the treasurer of Normal Heights for Smart Growth, you can find her in the garden with her chickens and puppy.
Paul Coogan serves as chair of the Normal Heights Community Planning Group and as Secretary of the Community Planners Committee. When not acting as webmaster for this site he can be found drawing portraits or doing home improvement projects.
